The temptation to bake,
keeps hunting me each day,
and the work I do in school,
is always getting in the way.
But not today

I have for a long time wanted to try making an ombre cake, which is a cake that go from having dark shades of  colour, to light, or the other way around. Only a week ago, I tried making my first ombre cake.

This is how the results of my first attempt of making a Pink Ombre Cake turned out:

As can be seen in the pictures above, I have to practise a lot before I can make the ombre cake as beautiful as I want. Regardless of that, I'm fairly satisfied with the results, seeing as it is the first time I try making one.

This is the recipe I used for making the batter

Ingredients:
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 200g softened butter
  • 4 eggs beaten
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons of milk

Steps:
  1. Heat oven to 180 degrees. I used non-stick tins and therefore I didn't butter them.
  2. Blend all the cake ingredients together with a blender until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Divide the batter into five small bowls, depending on how many different layers you want, and put in food colouring into all bowls. Dont forget to mix the batter in the bowls so you can see how dark the colour goes. I tried to make the different bowls gradually darker.
  4. Divide the batter into five tins if you are making a five - layer cake.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes and leave to cool before decorating with the buttercream.

Cream cheese Buttercream

  • 1 cup soft butter
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 2½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  1. Mix the ingridients with a stand mixer until the buttercream is smooth but can be shaped
  2. Decorate the cake with the buttercream (it can also be used to fill the cake)
